Here is the path I walk down to get to the nest area....beautiful,huh?
I didn't have the right lens but also got a pic of the green pipe that I cross to get a better look at Nike and momma Cher.
You can't tell from this pic but the pipe is 35-40 feet long. Luckily my balance is still pretty good for an ol' lady and I can make it over fairly easily.
I found Nike easily and she was in a nice spot for photographs.
How beautiful is this gal,huh?
Of course, Momma Cher was close by watching over her young.
And the handsome Sonny was catching some shut eye
The owls live in a pretty busy area. There are many homes, biking/hiking paths, 2 small lakes, an elementary school, some small businesses and a hot air balloon business.
The balloons were taking off, so I grabbed some pics. While it looks like fun, I'm not sure I will ever go for a ride :)
I headed home to get ready for the day. Thursdays, I volunteer at Longmont humane doing animal communication with my friend Della. Always fun and very rewarding...feels so good to help the animals understand what happened and that we're here to help them find a new home.
I had not been over to the owl nest in the evening for almost a week, so decided tonight was the night.
There were only a couple of photographers and many people that were just walking by.
Everyone was down the trail looking into a marshy area. What the ?????
Sonny was perched on a dead tree about 4 feet high. I have never seen him sit that low before....He seemed to be enjoying all the attention and did seem to be posing for us!
He even did some nice stretching and yoga type movements too
I finally pulled myself away to go see Nike and Cher. So I crossed that green pipe and found them easily.
And finally Elmo was awake and flapping those big wings
There's a good chance he could be out of the nest by Saturday evening. so I guess I know what I'm doing for the next few days...hanging at the owl nest :)
