The Weather Gods Were Kind!

I kept checking any and all weather websites and TV stations last evening. All I kept seeing was that it was supposed to be cloudy this morning. I really wanted to go out photographing, so I hoped for clear skies when I woke up today.
I woke up to some clouds but it looked promising. So I took care of the kids and headed down to my favorite spot.
We have been having some real soaking thunderstorms the last few evenings. So I spotted one of the avocets enjoying some yummy earthworms!

This trail is usually bone dry but all the rain has saturated everything!

So I'm walking along this path( on the grass) when I heard quite a bit of commotion up ahead! The ducks were squawking away! Well, I soon saw why.......
This coyote came cruising down the path right towards me! My only thought was " I gotta get a pic of this!"

When he spotted me, he spooked and high tailed it the other way....whew! My sense was that he was hoping to eat some yummy ducklings but he had no luck.

There are even more baby ducklings all over the place! I never get tired of seeing them...

Here is a canada goose family.....

More ducklings......

I spotted a barn swallow taking a break.....

A nice mallard family....

There are quite a few killdeer around but it is not always easy to get a pic....

Another barn swallow with some nesting material....

Cute!!!!

Here's a tree swallow.....

Here is a very cute spotted sandpiper. Like the killdeer, they are quite plentiful but challenging to get pics of. This one walked around for a bit. Then another one flew in and then a male showed up...baby sandpipers on the way!

I looked up from the sandpipers to see this avocet flying by......

I went to check on the GBH nest. No baby sightings but all seemed well......

There should be baby avocets pretty soon!

The comorant nest is right near the GBH nest. You can see two baby cormorants.....

I saw this branch floating by and realized it was a muskrat pulling it along....

I spotted this yellow warbler flitting around. It took a bit of patience from me to wait for him to land in a place where I could grab a pic.....

The light was just beautiful this morning....

Things quieted down so I headed to a new park for some photographing. It's called Welchester park. I watch a birding website to see what's going on in Colorado. There has been some excitement over a blue-winged warbler. Seems the bird usually lives east of the mississippi, so this is special treat.
Since it was on my way home, I figured it was worth a shot.

I found the park easily and headed down to the trail. I spotted this cute eastern wood- pewee enjoying the day!

Then I saw this robin collecting nesting matierial....

And then this cute house wren sang his beautiful song to let me know he was there....

I continued down the trail to where the warbler had been spotted. There were about 5 other people there hoping to see the warbler. We could hear him but not see him. A birder that had been down the trail walked towards us to help us find this little guy.
Now I almost always wear a baseball hat when photographing. It's much easier to pop a hat on my head then to do something with my hair. And the hat I always wear is a NY Yankee hat. I explain that because as the birder came up to help us locate the warbler, he had on a redsox baseball cap. Hmmmm I wondered how that would go down. If you know anything about baseball, you know there is a huge rivalry between the redsox and yanks. Well, the guy just showed us where the bird was and we all enjoyed seeing him. Finally, I had to say something. So I said " see, yankee and redsox fans can get along!" We all had a good laugh and all was well!

I spent about an hour watching this little bird. I got a couple of decent pics but I hope to get back there soon and get some better ones.

What a fun morning! Thanks for reading!
