I woke up to a beautiful day! So I was off to my favorite spot in Lakewood.
I was barely out of the car when this cute young rabbit said hi......
There are baby ducklings everywhere! Looks like duckling daycare,huh?
A spotted sandpiper posed nicely for me! Those white dots are tons of insects buzzing around.....
Had to do the reflection shot....
I continued down the path and this handsome robin had such nice light on him....
It was fairly quiet after that, so I continued on to the great blue heron nest. I was almost to the nest when I noticed a snapping turtle getting ready to lay her eggs. They are so prehistoric looking!
After enjoying the snapper, I made it over to the heron nest. Seems a second pair has moved in. The new nest is in the upper right corner of the pic.
The new couple was very busy. This guy was flying back and forth to get nesting material....
And here he is bringing back some nesting material....
The baby GBH herons in the other nest are getting so big!
I finally pulled myself away from the GBH herons and circled around the lake. I saw one of the avocets and she was squawking at the mallards nearby. I wondered why and then I saw a BABY AVOCET! Oh my...... so darn cute and so tiny! This one must have hatched in the last couple of days.....

The turtles were all enjoying the nice warm day too....
As I said, baby mallards were everywhere. Was excited to get this cute pic of mom and kid. The other ducklings were scattered all around.

I peeked in this nest and a flicker was busy in there....

I spotted this dove on top of the no fishing sign......
Whew! What a fun morning! I was home by 10:30am to get Hazel out for a good swim!
