A Fun Wednesday!

I was a busy working gal both Monday and Tuesday. So today was a free day for me to go photographing! I had to head down to my favorite spot in Lakewood to see how the avocets were doing. I was hoping that the two new baby avocets I had seen on Sunday would be in a better place for some pics.
As I walked over to see the avocets, I saw these two spotted sandpipers dancing around. At first I thought they may be courting/mating but I soon realized it was two males claiming their territory. Very cool!

Of course the killdeer are all around.....

I did see the avocets with the one baby but they weren't in a good spot for pics. So I decided to do a lap and come back. Every year I see a few black crown night herons around here. But this spring, I have not seen one!
Finally! I spotted one this morning! I love seeing these guys!

I continued on and spotted a handsome male gadwall....

Then I spotted momma gadwall with her very large ducklings....

I walked over to see if I could refind the cedar wax wings and I did! I'm pretty sure I know what tree they are building a nest. Every time a grackle landed in that tree, the cedars got very upset! Fingers crossed for baby cedar wax wings!

Next I headed over to see how the GBH nest was doing. Mom had just flown in and she was feeding the kids!

Here's the two kids after mom left.....

So I'm enjoying the GBH kids and then I spot a new GBH nest to the right on the same island. That was not there on Sunday. Now there are three nests! Seems late to be building a nest, so we will see.....

The second GBH nest seems to be going well. Momma got up to stretch a bit!

I was hoping to see the other pair of avocets and their two kids. But they were not around near the island. So I started a second lap of the lake. I headed over to where the avocet pair with the one kid were hanging out.
Sweet! I spotted the two avocet youngins near where the first pair of avocets was hanging out.

I walked around to get better pics of the avocets babies and I almost dropped my camera! There were actually three baby avocets! This was the closest that they got to each other...

By now, the light was getting harsh but I had to see if I could get some good pics. So darn cute!

I finally pulled myself away and went to see if the black crown night heron was still around. He was but he was tucked in for a nap. Then I spotted a robin busy getting her nest ready.

I watched her fly back and forth getting nesting material. I attempted to get some pics of her flying to or from the nest but she was too fast for me. Stay tuned for baby robins!

What a fun morning! It was worth getting up at 5:30am!

Thanks for reading!
