A magical evening

Saturday evening was so fun! I took my friend Mary over to meet the owls. When we got there, Cher was off the nest and sitting in a nearby tree. She was preening and stretching and seemed very happy to have a few minutes to herself. Sonny was sitting in a tree down the path, so all was well.
We noticed some movement in the nest and realized the babies were starting to peek out to the world. We think we saw at least 2 babies....very exciting!
Cher soon finished her grooming session and took off to get dinner for the kids. She was back shortly with a yummy meadow vole. She flew into the nest, dropped it off and immediately flew off. That was cool! I was able to grab a quick pic of the baby owl attempting to eat his dinner. I imagine Cher said " Here kids, chew on this until I get back"! Guess it was the owl version of a teething ring :)
The next time Cher came back with another vole, she settled into the nest and fed the kids. This routine continued for awhile. Within a short amount of time, Cher had caught 3 meadow voles and fed the kids.
Sonny finally showed up with a meadow vole and sat in a nearby tree. I guess he took too long to deliver it because Cher flew over to him, grabbed the vole and took it into the nest. I could just hear her scolding him..." what took you so long! The kids are hungry"!

What a magical evening it was! Stay tuned for more owl adventures.......
