Finally- an owl sighting w/pics

 baby Horton

Yes, I know there have been no owl updates since the summer solstice. I have been over a few times this summer and have caught a glimpse of one of the owls. But there were no pics and it wasn't worth writing about. My friend, Georgia lives in the neighborhood near the owls, so she has kept me informed of any sightings she has had. She had seen Horton over near the tree nest where he was hatched. Maybe he was revisiting his youth much like us humans. You know, driving by the house you grew up in and exclaiming how small it looked. So that prompted me to venture over for a possible owl sighting.
I met Georgia around 7pm and we started the search for the owls. We searched all the areas she had seen them in the last few weeks. No luck.....
Finally we walked over to the trail behind the school. We were losing light fast and there was Horton sitting in a tree waiting for us :)
We said hi and how happy we were to see him. He seemed pleased to see us too. I started taking photos and realized I was getting his profile. I was hoping for a full face shot, so I said
" Horton, would you please look towards me?" Yup! He totally honored me by giving me a beautiful full face look! I have to say that still blows my mind when animals honor my requests :)
We enjoyed his beauty for about 15 minutes before leaving him so he could start his evening of hunting.
We know the end is near. That Horton and Penelope will be leaving soon. Moving to their own territory and starting families of their own. So any sightings are quite precious!

 Horton all grown up!
