Finally! I made time to stop over to see the owls in the evening. I've stopped over
during the day and easily found them napping but going around dusk is so much
more fun! They are getting ready to start their "day" so it's always exciting!
On the way over, I saw a few deer near the side of the road. Of course I stopped to
get some pics and to ask them not to cross the road as there was lots of traffic. They
agreed......
So I made it over to the trail and hurried down to the nest area. There was Sonny getting grooming himself.....
And then he gave out a big yawn.....
He flew over to another tree and posed for me.....
I love silhouette pics so just had to get this one......classic great horned owl !
Cher showed up and spent some time in the nest getting it ready for new baby owls.
It was so fun to see them getting ready to go hunting.......It looks like they may be starting their new family earlier then last year. Last year Cher got the nest around March 1st. So by the time the young owls left the nest, it was hard to see them because all the leaves were blooming. So if they get an early start, it will be easier to get pics of the baby owls....I am looking forward to meeting the new owls soon!
