Yeah! I found a moment to go out photographing in between looking for a new home. So I headed down to my favorite spot in Lakewood. Right away I stumbled on a new batch of baby mallards. Yup! I counted 13 little ones.
I went over to check on the swallow nest and watched mom fly in and feed the babies. I think they are still pretty small as they did not stick their heds out calling for food. I bet by the next time I go down, the babies should be peeping out of their nest.
I quickly spotted my black crown night heron friend. And as you can see he/she spotted me...pretty cool!
I had not been seeing the snowy egrets around very much but finally they are all around. I saw 5-6 of them today. I never get tired of their beauty!
I went over to the back pond and found the canada goose family. The goslings are growing up so fast!
I walked back to the main pond and found momma wood duck. Her young were scattered all over the pond. She was swimming back and forth calling them to her but they were not listening. Just like teean age humans :)
After enjoying the wood duck, I headed over to Prospect Park. I went to check on the cedar waxwing nest but no one was around. So I continued on and found this kingfisher.
I continued on around Bass lake and heard a beautiful song from this guy. It is a gray catbird. According to the books it is a bit shy and hides in the thickets. Apparently this guy didn't know that and he posed nicely for me.
I decided to hike over to see how the owls were doing. Last time, I only found 2 of the youngsters. Well today I found all 3 plus mom! 2 of the youngsters were just chilling and relaxing but the third one was quite active flying around putting on quite the show for me!
