We finally had our first frost of the season. I for one am loving it! Being able to put on a
nice fleece jacket felt wonderful!
We had a dusting of snow on Friday, so I decided to get up early Saturday morning and drive down to Belmar Lake( my favorite spot). I was hoping to see a nice sunrise and maybe get some nice frosty pics. The sunrise was nice but nothing spectacular. And the clouds came in decreased the light significantly.
Oh well, it was still a pretty morning as I walked around the main lake.
One lonely snowy egret was looking for breakfast.....
It was pretty darn quiet as I walked around the lake. Oh well, it was a beautiful morning so I took a few deep breaths of fresh cold air and kept walking.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw something fly by. Sweet! A beautiful cooper's hawk landed in a nearby tree. I love seeing these guys. So I said hi and started photographing him.
He gave me some nice pics!
After a few minutes, he flew off to continue on his day. It got quiet again, so I got some photos of frosty flowers.....
As I continued on, a squirrel ran by with a peanut......He wasn't sure if he should eat it or bury it.
I was near the gazebo when I saw something flying at me. It was the cooper's hawk!
He flew to nearby tree and I grabbed a few more pics.
Then he flew over me and landed on the railing where I got more pics!
How fun was that! He put on quite the show for me and gave me some great pics! I thanked him for a fun time!
I decided to stop at Prospect Park on my way home. It was pretty quiet here too. I had walked for about 20 minutes before seeing this cute pair of house finches. They patiently posed for me.......very sweet!
I saw a few ducks on one of the ponds but they were too far away for a good photo. But then I spotted an immature black crown night heron....can you see him?
As I watching the heron, a kingfisher flew by......
After enjoying the kingfisher, I checked in with the heron. So cool looking!
The sun had finally broke through the clouds..... so beautiful!
Here is Clear Creek. Finally the water is calming down after the recent floods......
I was back in the parking lot when a sharp shinned hawk flew over me......they are very similar to cooper's hawks only smaller.
Well, as always it was a great way to start the day! Thanks for reading!
