Just like on Christmas day, it also was tradition for Molly dog and I to go for a hike and get photos of wildlife on New Year's Day.
So now that tradition continues with my new dog- Hazel!
I was hoping to get an early start but the weather was not very cooperative. It was very cloudy and then a snow squall blew through. By 9:30am it had stopped snowing, so I got my stuff together. Then Hazel and I headed out for some fun.
I decided to stay close to home in case we got another snow storm. So we headed over to Twin Lakes to wish my owl friends a happy new year.
Twin lakes is just that...two lakes. The west one is very dog friendly as they can be off leash. The east lake they need to be on leash. So Hazel and I did the west lake loop first so she could have some fun chasing her ball.
Once we did the west loop, we headed over to find my owl friends. I quickly found Cher sitting in one of her favorite spots.
As I was saying hi to Cher, I spotted a bald eagle sitting over the east lake. So Hazel and I hustled over there to see if we could get some good pics. There were too many branches in the way, so we just enjoyed seeing the eagle. I have seen eagles over here before but it seems pretty special to see one on New Year's Day!
We walked back over to see Cher and maybe find Sonny too. Just as I got back to Cher's tree, Sonny hooted from a nearby tree and Cher answered him. So cool.......and it made it easy to spot him.
I wished them both a very happy new year and we headed back to the car. We headed over to the Boulder reservoir, so Hazel could get more time with her tennis ball.
Not much was going on except for this handsome kestrel......
After a very fun filled morning, we headed home for lunch and a relaxing afternoon.
Clarence, Zoe, Hazel and I would like to wish everyone a very happy new year! I have a feeling it's gonna be pretty magical!
