What a fun morning! I knew that one of the owlets was ready to leave the nest. My plan was to go Tuesday morning and see if he/she had popped out. Well, when I woke up this morning I got the feeling I should go today. I have learned to listen that inner voice, so I got Hazel and the kitties fed and jumped in the car. It's about a 15 minute drive, so I was there by 7am. I grabbed my camera and hustled down the trail to the owl nest. I had not even reached the nest when I spotted this youngster high up in a tree near the nest.
Wow! I was so glad I listened and got my butt over there. I do enjoy getting first morning pics when the owlets first leave the nest. It is common for the owlet to leave the nest during the night( their daytime) and then climb to a safe place. This one did a fine job and is a great place....
Of course they do not always wait for good weather to leave the nest. Yesterday was a snowy, windy and a pretty chilly day. As you can see.....
Once I calmed down from seeing the owlet, I looked for Sonny and Cher. Sonny was across the path and had found a nice spot to enjoy the sunshine.
Cher was very close to the owlet. Look below Cher and you will see the little guy. Sonny and Cher are very good parents! I once saw a crow get too close to one of her kids. She almosted crashed into him like a bowling ball hitting the pins! She is once tough Momma owl!
Lots more room in the nest now......
Finally I pulled myself away to go have breakfast and get Hazel out for a hike. We went to the Boulder Valley Ranch Loop. As we were driving in there were about 8-10 western bluebirds flying around!
Yes, Hazel had fun and loves the snow!
Wow! That was a fun way to start the week! Stay tuned for more owlet pics!
