A Cloudy Day in Colorado

I have to say I am a bit spoiled weatherwise. Most days start out sunny this time of year. Then maybe we get some afternoon thunderstorms. So I was not happy to wake up to a very cloudy day. I really wanted to go photographing, so I headed down to my favorite place. Maybe the sun would pop out for me. Nope! It was even cloudier in Lakewood. Oh well, the low light wouldn't be good for photos but I started around the lake to see what was going on.

I quickly came upon a family of canada geese. How cute are they?

I looked out to the island and spotted this canada goose nest full of eggs!

As I continued on I found a mallard family. There is nothing cuter than ducklings!

Then I spotted another family. I am pretty sure this is the family I photographed last month. The kids are almost as big as mom!

This is how the day looked...very gloomy!

Another mallard family!

I had done a complete lap of the lake and went to check on the great blue heron nest. Those black dots around mom are insects.

Bingo! I saw some movement and could see two baby GBH!!! I have never seen baby GBH, so I am excited to see them grow up this summer.....

Other than the ducks, geese and GBH, it was very quiet so I headed home. Just before I got home I stopped over at the open space offices on Cherryvale rd. I was hoping to see a wilson's snipe.

First I spotted a savannah sparrow singing his heart out.

Then the wilson's snipe made an appearance too! These are the coolest looking birds!

Well, it was a slow day as far as seeing a quantity of birds but it still fun! Thanks for reading!
