I had it all planned out very well. Work in the morning, get Hazel out for some swimming/playtime and then head over to watch the CU women's BB team play with my friends. Every Thanksgiving weekend CU hosts a tournament. It's always fun and very competitive.
Last night was the championship game between CU and CSU( colorado state university). A huge in state rivalry, we knew it was gonna be a hard fought game! But little did we know what was in store. Well it was an incredible game that was won by CU after a double overtime! Normally the game would be over by 9:30pm but it lasted to well over 10:00pm with the overtimes. So when I got home, it was late and I was still wired after the exciting game. I got to bed as soon as I could but 5:30am came way too soon!
Hazel and the kitties were happy as they got an early breakfast and I needed coffee to get me started.....
It was all worth it as I saw another spectacular sunrise!
I watch a few birding sites to get an idea of places to go photograph. The other day I saw a post of a place in Littleton that looked promising. So I thought it would be fun to check out a new place. So I followed the directions to the Carson Nature Cetner. As I pulled into the parking lot, I realized I had been here one time a few years ago. Ha! I had a good laugh and decided it was still a new spot as I had totally forgotten I had been here before. Oh well.....
The sun was up but behind a few clouds so the light was not the best. I quickly spotted this red tailed hawk looking for breakfast......
As I crossed the walking bridge, I heard the familiar call of the spotted towhee. How nice of him to pose for me......
I headed over to a lake called Eaglewatch Lake. There had been a loon sighting but he was not around today. But there was this cute pair of hooded mergansers.....
And a female goldeneye
And I even got a decent shot of some flying goldeneye dudes!
As I was watching the goldeneyes, a muskrat swam by......
And another red tail posed nicely for me.....
So after having fun here, I realized I was very close to a little pond where a pair of wood ducks lives. So I drove over to see if they were around.
All I saw were some mallards and these geese. The geese posed so nicely and I do love the "reflection shot". So I grabbed a few pics........
I was just about to head back to the car and the female wood duck appeared. Ha! they were just behind some rocks snoozing but woke up to say hi.......
They gave me some nice pics and then settled in for a nap.....
I said thanks and headed back to the car. As I was watching some sparrows, I noticed this very large paper wasp nest. It was larger than a basketball! Very cool!
It was time to head home and I realized I could pop by my favorite spot on the way home. Sweet! When I got to Wadsworth Blvd, the wind picked up and I saw the outside temps drop about 20'. Whoa! By the time I got to Belmar lake, it was very windy and cold! I attempted to do a lap around the lake but it was too damn cold! Whew! It had gone from around 50' down to about 25' in a few hours!
So I called in a day and headed home. No swimming for Hazel today but she did some tennis ball chasing playtime.
I will head back down real soon as there were many trails and other lakes to explore!
Thanks for reading!
