According to the weather reports, we are due for some snow tonight and tomorrow. At first it was just a dusting. Now the reports are up to 5 inches. So I figured Hazel and I better get a good hike in today...just in case.
A friend reminded me about a fun trail in east Boulder near Heatherwood elementary. So we went to check it out. It was okay but the trail was still pretty damaged from the floods over a year ago. So I decided to drive around the neighborhood and discovered another trail called the east Boulder Gunbarrel trail. Wow! there was a main trail with lots of smaller trails. We just did a small part today but will definitely be back when I have more time.
Of course I brought my camera just in case.......
The meadowlarks are already starting to sing as spring slowly approaches......
I also enjoyed a nothern harrier flying over the open fields but couldn't get close enough to get any good pics.
After enjoying the hike I took the long way home. So glad I did as I spotted this bald eagle sitting in a tree surrounded by starlings. Since eagles eat mainly fish, the starlings seemed relaxed......
And this redtail was sitting on a telephone wire along Valmont road.
I was on a photographic roll, so as the sun was setting I headed over to see my owl friends.
I was losing the light as Sonny and Cher started waking up. Here is Sonny in the "pantry".
It's the crook of a large tree near their nest. We call it the pantry because we have seen them store extra food there..rabbit legs, meadow voles, etc.
Then Sonny flew into the nest and hooted to Cher......
Here is Cher.....
As I walked back to the car, Sonny was a top of this spruce tree....
Cher could start nesting any time! Typically she lays her eggs around the beginning of February...so stay tuned!
