Spring is Here!

Oh yeah! Spring is here! Well at least for a little while. Here in Colorado it is quite normal to get snow into April and even May sometimes. But for now we are all enjoying the beautiful days!

So I decided to head down to my favorite place to see what was going on. When I was there a few weeks ago, a great blue heron was already claiming one of the nests. So I headed over to the gazebo area to check on the GBH. Well, I was surprised to see at least 6 photographers with their cameras pointing at the GBH nest. Word sure got around fast! I did not want to deal with these guys so I continued walking around the lake. Past experience with guys with big cameras has not been good. They are quite arrogant and a bit chavanistic too!

So I walked around and quickly spotted a pair of green winged teals! I love that pop of color on the female!

This goose was busy courting his gal!

As I walked around to get a pic of the GBH, there was a group making a movie! I have never seen that before at my favorite place.....

The GBH were putting on a nice show. This gal had the nest claimed and her mate soon flew in...

I spotted a handsome greater scaup...

And the buffleheads were in full courting mode! Seems the takes flight and the males go with her. They are so fast, it was hard to get a pic. I finally got a somewhat decent pic.

The shovelers are still here and I got my reflection shot that I love so much!

The red wings were in full chorus as they claimed their territories....

I found a cute pair of gadwalls.

This single guy was trying to grab her attention to no avail.....

The female actually chased him away and then celebrated!

This starling is checking on the flicker nesting box.....

And the cormorants are back!

This is another GBH nesting. Two of the three nests from last year are claimed....

The kingfisher was taunting me by flying over repeatedly. Finally got some kind of a decent pic.

I was getting ready to go, so took a look for the cooper's hawks. They weren't around but a goose was perched high up on an office building.....

I headed home with a quick detour to Prospect park. This female mallard blended in perfectly with her surroundings!

A pair of ring necked ducks swam by....

A pair of flickers were checking out a possible nest site. This is the female....

And her mate was close by......

What a fun morning! I headed home so Hazel could go swimming and we both could enjoy the day!

Thanks for reading!
