I've been watching this pair of owls for six years. Sure each set of owlets has their own uniqueness. But this year's owlets went way outside the box! Normally the owlets leave the nest during the night but Sky left in broad daylight at around 9:30am. And normally there is about a week or so before the next owlet leaves the nest. But owlet #2 left the nest last night. That's only 4 days since Sky left.
So here is owlet #2 in the nest last night.....
And Sky was enjoying the evening sun.....
Sonny was close by snoozing....
Here's another angle to show you how well a great horned owl can blend in to the tree.
Just as it got dark, momma Cher started her day........
She flew around for a bit before heading into the nest. She pulled out a big piece of rabbit and landed nearby to enjoy it.
My friend Georgia texted me this morning that owlet #2 was out of the nest. What??? So I got over there ASAP! He was not in a good place for a pic yet. So here's Sky with Cher close by.....
I headed back over this evening to see what was going on with the owls. It was pretty quiet, so I went to check on the flicker nest. The female was in the nest. I waited a few minutes and she poked her head out.
She flew off and then the male stopped by for a photo.! Looking forward to seeing baby flickers soon!
All was quiet with the owls still and I needed dinner, so I headed home. Big day tomorrow I hope. Headed out to Barr lake to see the grebes courting and hopefully the burrowing owls too!
Thanks for reading!
