Summer Solstice with the Owls

Yahoo! I was able to upload pics...enjoy, again!

Summer Solstice with my owl friends was so very fun! I met my friend Georgia at Twin Lakes and we proceeded to look for the owls. It used to be so easy to spot them. But now that the foliage is in full bloom and the babies can fly so well, it is more of a challenge. We did a lap around the east lake and met a very gregarious black cat named Figgy. She immediately greeted us by rubbing on my leg and rolling onto her back. Georgia knew where she lived which was close by. So I asked her if she knew that the owls lived around here and could make a meal of her at any time. She said yes, she knew of them and that she was very careful. Okay then, we said good night to her and proceeded on.
We found both Horton and Penelope sitting in some trees overhanging the lake. Wow! Had they grown since I last saw them. Horton had lost most of his baby down feathers and was looking very mature. Both flew around for us, showing off their flying skills. Quite good for sure but they still need work on the landings :)
We then went looking for Cher and Sonny. We never saw Cher but did find Sonny in a nearby tree. He was happy to see us and posed for pics. Then he flew off his branch and headed across the field to another tree. His grace and speed when he flies still blows my mind!
So we headed back to where Horton and Penelope were hanging out. It was too dark to get any pics but we enjoyed the show as they flew from branch to branch to branch.....
Happy Solstice everyone!
 handsome Horton

 Horton again :)

 Sonny looking good
