chasing Penelope

What a fun evening! I met Georgia near the trailhead and we were off to search for the owls. We didn't expect to see the adults but were hoping to see at least one of the young owls. As I was driving over, I requested to the owls to get a good sighting during the day light, so I could get a few photos before it got too dark.
Georgia and I were chatting away as we got 3/4 of the way around the lake. A silent figure flew right in front of us. Yeah! It was one of the young owls. We saw her land in a tree near the BMX track. So we picked up our pace, climbed over a bunch of dirt hills and got close to the tree. Then she decided to fly over to another tree about 50 yards away, so we followed. Again as we got close, she flew again. This time up into a nice tree near the path. She waited patiently as we got closer. We said hi and I got some nice pics.We thought it was Penelope and confirmed that with the pics. All this time she was calling for food from one of the parents but no one showed up to feed her. After a few minutes, she flew off towards the school. We had to walk all the way around the building to get to where she was. Just as we did, she flew to another tree and finally took off into the night. We thanked her for the fun adventure and were ready to head home. Just then a very cute, young red fox walked by. I tried to get a few pics but the light was long gone. So we admired her beauty and then headed home.
Very fun evening!
