baby owls!

So Monday evening I get a phone call from my friend, Georgia. She called to let me know that the babies were starting to peek out of the nest. Argh! It was too late to drive over but I came up with another plan. I planned to go over first thing in the morning. So I was up and out of the house by 5:45am. Got over to the owls around 6 am. The sun was already up and the light was perfect for photography. As I got to the nest, I saw an owl in the tree near the nest. I just assumed it was Sonny but when I looked closer, it was Cher! She was watching the nest closely but taking a well deserved break! It was about 1/2 hr before she headed back into the nest and fed the kids.....

Besides the owls, a flicker posed for me..pretty handsome bird,huh?

I went back Tuesday evening and here was Cher looking a bit weary from a long day. She eventually flew out and did some nice stretching before heading off to get dinner.

I plan to go back tomorrow morning. I realized that is a much better time of day both for photos and I get the owls all to myself. I only saw a couple of joggers. In the evening, there is a mixed bag of interesting people that come to see the owls. so I plan to go in the mornings more often!
