Year of the wood duck?

Okay, this is crazy! I have always loved wood ducks. I even remember writing a paper about them in college( many moons ago).
So now I've seen 3 different males in the last month...wild!


Today, Molly dog and I did a hike at Coot lake. On the way home I decided to stop by my owl friends and say hi. Cher was tucked in the nest but Sonny was no where to be seen.
I walked a bit further down the trail and I noticed 2 people looking up into a tree. Hmmmm maybe they were looking at Sonny. So I focus my camera to take a look and I see a pair 
of wood ducks up in the trees! OMG! I couldn't believe my eyes. I spent the next 1/2 hour watching them fly around looking for a place to call home. As I was walking around to get some pics, I also found Sonny tucked in a perfect place where most people would not see him.
I said hi and got some pics. Then it was back to the wood ducks. I was having such a great time watching them! Them another photographer friend showed up and I showed him the ducks. He was blown away too.
I sure hope they nest around here.....nothing cuter than baby wood ducks.......
