Sonny was in a nearby tree having a snooze. A few crows and grackles decided to harass him.
They were really annoying but he held his ground and they finally left.
Nike was high up in her favorite spot and Cher was close by, watching over the kids.
Elmo was still in the same small tree. He napped for a bit and then did some nice wing stretching!
It was just getting dark when Elmo decided to be adventurous. He flapped his wings and hopped around for a few minutes. One last flap and he was on the ground! We were concerned because there's a small drainage ditch with water running through it. But being a smart owl, he navigated the ditch nicely and disappeared into the brush.
I headed home hoping he'd get into another tree where he'd be safe.
So I headed over first thing this morning. It took about 20 minutes for me to locate him. Again he was perched in a low tree starring at me :)
I was walking back to the car when I heard the crows making a ton of noise! I hurried back to see them harassing Sonny. Sonny had been hanging in a nearby tree watching over Elmo.
As you can see, Sonny was not a happy guy. About 6-8 crows were harassing him. He was a bit exposed in this tree, so Sonny flew to a more protected spot.
Then Sonny started hooting and Cher was hooting back. Felt like they were communicating with each other and the babies as they were under attack.
Elmo was a smart guy. When he heard the crows, he tucked himself into the foliage.
His dad was very close by. So if the crows went near him, they'd get their butts kicked by dad!
Finally the crows left and everyone relaxed.....
