The owlets were sleeping with Cher close by being a good mom. So I headed over to Walden ponds to see who wanted to be photographed. It was pretty quiet over there but I did see this handsome guy. A beautiful goldfinch!
That was a shot of a lifetime for me! I see these guys quite often but it is quite challenging to get a nice pic of them!
I had some time Monday morning, so headed over to see the owls. A fellow photographer was there, so we chatted as the owlets slept. Just as I was thinking of leaving, they woke up and put on quite the show!
The owlets are about 1 month old and usually leave the nest at 6-8 weeks. I'm pretty sure these guys are leaving around 6 weeks. They are so active and constantly flapping those huge wings......
I decided go back after dinner and they put on quite the show. I got there early and walked over to the lake. I saw one of the great blue herons.
If you look closely, there's a killdeer on the ground imitating the GBH...very cute!
I headed back over to the owl nest and waited for the show to start. They did not disappoint!
fist the cute babies posed for me.
Then Cher started her stretching routine....
I was losing the light so fast but was able to catch her as she flew to get dinner
When she came back, we could see a white blob in her talons. We finally figured out it was a rabbit. She flew into a tree above us and enjoyed her dinner. Then she flew into the nest and fed the kids!
What a fun time!
