Lots of activity!

This getting up early stuff is becoming a habit :) And I do notice I actually get more done if I get up early. So I was out photographing by 6:15am. I headed over to to this preserve. There's a big lake and a small pond plus tons of walking trails. It's only about 10 minutes from my house and I hadn't been there for a bit. So today was the day.

The small pond was very active. There were white faced ibis, avocets, hawks, mallards and a great blue heron. Also a beautiful view of the flatirons!

The ibis were on the far side of the pond and they were constantly moving to get their breakfast. The pics are okay but I'll go back and get better ones soon.
The best show was the pair of red tailed hawks. I got some beautiful flight shots and watched them build their nest.
I was having so much fun photographing that I decided to go over and see my owl friends.
I was hoping I'd have them all to myself but no....... another gal and a guy showed up to take pics. The babies were very cute as usual.......

They are getting so big. We think they're about a month old, so they have another 2-3 weeks in the nest. Cher was sitting in a different spot then I usually see her. It was directly across from the nest, so she had an excellent view of the nest.

As I was admiring Cher's beauty, I heard a familiar sound. It was a sharp shinned hawk flying around! I followed her down the trail hoping she'd land in a good place for a photo. Finally she landed and it looked like her nest was near by. Sweet! The other 2 photographers were busy watching the baby owls, so they totally missed the hawk show! Finally the guy followed me and said "did you find the male owl"? I just smiled and said "no, I was watching a hawk".
I went back and watched the baby owls for a bit, then decided to walk over to the lake. As I headed down the trail, I found Sonny chillin......

That is one handsome owl. I continued over to the lake but it was pretty quiet. It was time to head home, so I passed the owl nest on my way to the car. The owlets were napping......how cute is that!
