Big news! The first owlet has left the nest! We could tell by the way she's been acting in the nest, that she was due to leave at any time. We started getting rain on Friday that was to last through Saturday. so we were hoping she'd stay in the nest until the rain passed. But noooooo,
she decided to leave this evening.
So here's what happened....I had been at Hank's pet shop all day doing animal communication sessions. I got home, made dinner and was planning to relax on the couch. About 7:00pm the phone rang and it was my friend Mary. She had just happened to stop by the owl nest and realized one had left the nest. She gave me a call to let me know. I was so excited, I got dressed in record time and drove over. It usually takes up to 20 minutes to get there from my house. But today it took less than 15 minutes. And no, I did not exceed the speed limit, well maybe a little :) On the way over, I called my friend Georgia to meet me at the owl nest.
I wasn't sure how many people would be there but luckily, it was just one other gal, my friend Karen. We got tons of pics and then Georgia and Mary met us to enjoy this cute owl. We've decided to name her Nike. Not after the running shoe but the Goddess. It was lightly raining, so we had her all to ourselves! Ha! Karen and I were the first to get pics of her out of the nest! Score!
As you can see, she looks like a wet kitten. And she sure was tired as she had walked and climbed pretty far from the nest. We saw Sonny near by and even though we didn't see Cher, I was positive she was watching her owlet very closely!
I plan to head over at first light tomorrow and get more pics, so stay tuned!
