A very brave squirrel

I got out to the owl nest around 6:30am to see where Nike might be. She was not where she had been the night before which was good. But with all the foliage, I found it tough to locate her. I had to get to work, so did not spend much time looking for her. I saw both Sonny and Cher relaxing in nearby trees, so figured all was well.
Sonny was sitting in a nice place for a photo, so I started taking a few pics. I soon noticed a squirrel was walking right towards Sonny!

In all the time I've observed this pair of owls, I have never seen them eat a squirrel. In fact, I did ask them last summer if they did eat them and they said "yuck!"

So I wasn't worried for his life but did wonder what would happen.

Right after I took this shot, the squirrel realized Sonny was there and he backed off. Smart squirrel and I got this hilarious pic!

I needed to get to work, so said hi to Elmo as I headed out...

you can't tell by this pic, but Elmo is a pretty active guy. I expect him to leave the nest in the next day or so. I'm headed over in a few minutes, so stay tuned!
