Aaah! The joys of moving! Not! Just moved to an apartment in a great part of Boulder. I can walk or ride my bike most anywhere which is what I love to do. So I am excited to be in the new place but it was sooo much work! I finally felt settled in enough to go out photographing yesterday( Labor day).
It was a weird weather day. Cloudy, sunny, windy and then calm. I loved seeing the sun shine through the clouds.
I headed over to Barr Lake to check on the barn owls. They were still in the nest.
So I headed over to the refuge. On the way, I heard a hawk making a ruckus. Cool! I spotted one perched on a pole behind the nature center. I hustled over there to see what was going on.
On the way to the hawk, I almost stepped on the Chukars. They seemed quite tame....
A brown thrasher was hanging out too.....
But my main interest was the hawk or actually 3 hawks. Swainson's hawks. I think they were 3 youngsters fighting over a catch one of them got. What a show! The light sucked but it was so fun to attempt to get some good pics.
They finally flew off, so I continued on and spotted a red breasted nuthatch.....
I walked over to the Fox Meadow area but it was pretty darn quiet. I saw some pelicans, cormorants and grebes but they were far out on the lake. So I decided to check on the burrowing owls on my way home. Seems the owls have left for the winter but another swainson's was perched on a pole. He took flight did a big loop and circled back...so cool!
Well, it sure felt good to get out with the camera! Still hoping to see baby barn owls, so stay tuned!
