Happy Winter Solstice!

What better way to celebrate the solstice than to go out photographing! Somehow I was up by 6:15am even though I got home late from a fun solstice party/white elephant gift exchange.
So with coffee in hand I headed down to my favorite spot in Lakewood. The large lake was filled with hundreds of canada geese like this guy.......

So I headed to the back pond to see what was going on. Score! There was lots going on!
There were a few ring necked ducks hanging around.....

Then I noticed Mr. wood duck as he swam by. He was quite interested in the female mallards......

more handsome ring necked ducks.....

The golden eye ducks are sooo cool looking. I got some decent pics of him skidding along the water.....

The northern shovelers were showing off too.....

While I was photographing all the ducks, a kingfisher was flying from tree to tree. It took a bit of patience but I finally got a couple of decent pics of this guy.....

It was time to head home but not before I spotted this very cute kestel looking for some breakfast.......

What a fun morning! The weather was fairly cooperative thankfully.....by the time I got home there were 30 mile per hour wind gusts.Yuck! So Hazel got a short walk and I went to the CU women's BB game with friends. Great game with great food and company post game!

Bring on the Light!
