I am a big fan of women's college basketball. My friends and I have season tix to the University of Colorado women's BB team. They are in the pac-12 conference and it is tournament time! Last night the Buffs( Buffaloes) were playing in the late game of the
semi-finals. The night before they had knocked off the top seeded Oregon State team.
So I had to cheer them on last evening. The game started at 9:30pm mountain time and
the games last about 2 hours. Then you add in that we had to turn the clocks ahead and
that put me behind the 8 ball in the sleep department! It was a great game but the Buffs lost.
So I headed off to bed with plans of getting up early to go out photographing. I woke up around 6:30am...perfect! Got myself a very large cup of coffee, packed some food and was out the door as the sun came up.
As I headed down to my favorite spot, I decided to pop by the eagle nest off of Quincy.
The nest was empty and no eagles were in sight. Just as I was getting back into the car, I heard the crows making a ruckus! I have learned it always a good idea to see why the crows are making a fuss. Sometimes it is nothing but sometimes it is something! And there was one of the balds just hanging out in a nearby tree.......
Oh yeah, it is a say's phoebe!
I finally got back in the car and headed to my favorite spot. I wasn't even back to Wadsworth when I spotted this redtail. So I pulled over to get some pics. He/she flew to a few different trees and gave me some great shots!
Wow! The morning was starting out on a great note! Finally I arrived at my favorite spot. I checked the cooper's hawk nest but nobody was around. So I walked over to the gazebo area and spotted this ring neck duck!
There were quite a few buffleheads. Here is a cute pair of them.....
A pair of ducks flew in and I saw it was a pair of common mergansers! They are common in Colorado but I hardly ever see them here! Sweet!
I started around the main pond and spotted this junco!
The flickers were all over the place!
I made to the back pond. Not much was going on. Just a few shovelers and mallards. Here is a pair of shovelers snoozing with one eye open....
I completed my loop and went back to the gazebo. What? There was GBH in the nest that was built very late last summer. Cool! Looks like more baby herons this summer ........
At first I thought these guys and gal were lesser scaup but they are greater scaup!
Here is a a hooded merganser....
Then the buffleheads were flying around and I was able to grab some flight pics.....
Finally it was time to head home. As I headed towards the parking lot I spotted one of the cooper's hawk! They do nest here and I got some sweet shots last summer of their young! Looking forward to another fun summer!
What a great morning! Even with only 6 hours of sleep, I felt good! So it I headed home to get Hazel out for a hike. I am gonna sleep good tonight!
Thanks for reading!
