High Alert!

Yup! I am on high alert! That is what I call it when one of the owlets looks ready to leave the nest. So each morning I get up, take care of Hazel and the kitties and then pop over to the nest to see if one of them has left the nest.

Everyone was still in the nest but Cher put on a great show for me. Here she is in what we call the "pantry". We have seen her stash extra food there before.

She had some leftover rabbit as she flew to another tree.......

Here she is delivering into the nest!

She spent some time making sure all 3 owlets got some food and then she left....

Then she settled in close to the nest for some much needed rest.....

So I headed home for breakfast but took the long way so I could check out the osprey nest near the model airport. The nesting platform is just a touch out of reach for photos but my hope was one or both may be closer.
Bingo! As I rounded the curve, one of them was perched on a telephone pole near the road. I quickly pulled over and got ready for some pics. I love seeing these magnificent birds!

I headed back to the nest tonight to see what was going on. Momma Cher was close by the nest when I got there. After awhile she started getting ready to start the day! I love seeing them stretch their wing! Really gives you a good sense of how big their wings are!

Then she does another big forward stretch.......

And it was time to fly to another tree....

She stayed perched in that tree until it was almost dark. Then she pulled out some rabbit leftovers. She ate some and then flew into the nest and gave the kids the rest.....


Here are the two biggest kids waiting for dinner....
