Got My Mojo Back!

Yahoo! Finally got to go out photographing and got some fun shots! I was worried I was losing my "touch" but all is well now...whew!
I headed down to my favorite spot and it did not disappoint! I started at the gazebo and quickly spotted this junco.....

Mallards are always around so I don't usually photograph them but I loved how this guy looked in the early morning light.

A pair of shovelers were having breakfast.....

I see muskrats all the time but they are always swimming away. I noticed a brown lump and realized it was a muskrat! Very cool!

This cute sparrow posed nicely for me. Pretty sure it's a song sparrow.....

Finally! I have been seeing the buffleheads but had not got a decent pic until today! They are pretty small at around 12-14 inches so that makes it a bit challenging to get a decent pic. I love the different colors on his head!

Sweet! Every once in awhile canvasbacks come through here. They were a bit far out for a good pic but I had to give it ago......

I always enjoy seeing the hooded mergansers. They were quite plentiful today....

I just started on my second lap when I saw some crows harassing this squirrel. They were hoping to steal his peanut but he was able to find a spot to eat it in peace.

Lots of ring billed gulls hangout here in the winter......

Here's a group of female buffleheads......so cute!

Shoveler reflection!

So I'm walking along the northside and I see a female mallard playing with something. I guessed maybe it was a crayfish but no.....it was a very large frog! Huh? I have never seen that before! Yes, I have seen them eat crayfish but this frog was way too big for her. She flung it around for a bit and then gave up and moved on. Crazy!
On closer look, I wonder if she's a mallard/shoveler mix......

There were a few pied-billed grebes around....very cute!

And here's a female ring neck duck.....

and here's the male ring neck......

I saw my friend Neal( expert birder) and we had a nice chat. He asked if I'd seen any of the cooper's hawks. I said no but I had not looked too hard for them yet.
We said good bye and not five minutes later one of the hawks flew up into a tree right near me! Sweet! I love seeing these guys!

Here are even more hooded merganser pics! I can't help myself.....

Ha! I always hear the kingfishers and even see them fly by but they hardly ever stop long enough for a pic. This female kingfisher posed very nicely for me!

A sleeping shoveler....I just love the colors and the reflection too!

And finally this great blue heron was enjoying the beautiful morning!

What a fun morning! There was lots to see and photograph! We're supposed to get a good sized snow storm tomorrow night, so I was glad to get out today and enjoy the warm day!
Thanks for reading!
