Most years I get to go out photographing on Thanksgiving but this year the weather was not cooperative. We started with freezing rain that turned to snow and the temps were frigid! This lasted a couple of days. By Sunday Hazel and I both needed a good hike. So instead of going out photographing, Hazel and I did a fun hike at the Boulder Valley Ranch loop. It was very gray and gloomy so I did not bring my camera which was fine as there was nothing to photograph.
Today the sun finally returned, so Hazel and I did another hike at the ranch loop. It was a beautiful day and we had fun! As we were driving out I spotted 2 bald eagles perched on some fence posts! What? Sure I have seen bald eagles around here. One of the hiking trails is even called eagle trail. But usually they are either flying over or perched in a giant cottonwood tree. Here they were on a 4 ft tall fence post looking so magnificent!
No I did not have my camera with me but you may remember last summer when I zipped home for my camera to get an owl pic. So again, I zipped home to grab my camera and got back as quick as I could. I was fairly confident that the eagles would still be there unless someone else spotted them and spooked them. They were about 50 feet off the dirt road and most people are oblivious to their surroundings. So I figured it was worth a shot.
Sure enough I came around the turn and could see they were still there...Sweet!
I parked the car out of sight and slowly approached them. They were kind enough to give me some great pics before flying about 100 yards away to another fence post.
What a great way to start the week!
Thanks for reading!
