Beautiful Monday!

A rainy Saturday and a chilly Sunday led to a spectacular Monday! The sky was a brillant blue as I headed out to photograph. I decided to start at Walden ponds in Boulder. This area in east Boulder attracts lots of wildlife and you get awesome views of the flatiorns.
Since we're just entering the fall season I understood I may not see lots of variety. Many birds have left for the winter but the birds that winter here are just starting to arrive.

The first duck I saw was the widgeon. They head north in the summer and are just starting arrive around here for the winter. Beautiful ducks!

I hiked around for over an hour. I mostly saw canada geese and some mallards.
The views were gorgeous! This is looking west towards the rocky mountains.

It was pretty quiet around here, so I decided to stop over to see my owl friends. My friend Georgia had let me know that the youngsters Elmo and Nike had left and that Cher was back. This was big news as it is very early! Usually the young leave around the end of October and Cher reappears in November. She likes to wait until the kids are gone before reuniting with Sonny.
Georgia had seen Sonny and Cher hanging out near their old nest area, hooting back and forth the other night. So I thought I'd pop over to see if I could find them.
I was walking down the trail and saw this cute squirrel...I love how the light shines on him.

I continued down the trail towards the nest area. What made me look up, I do not know but I did and there was Sonny napping away. I think I can safely say that many people walked under him and never noticed him.......

I was hoping to see Cher too, so I walked on in search of her. With most of the leaves still on the trees, it made it tough to find her if she was around.
I did not locate Cher but I did find a red tailed hawk. He was not in a good location for a photo but I was able to get these. Red tails are pretty common around here but I never get tired of seeing them. Beautiful birds!

                                                            Thanks for reading!
