I am determined to get a photo of a moose! Some friends of mine keep seeing moose at Caribou Ranch just outside of Nederland. I was up there few weeks ago and no luck. So I headed up today to find some moose and anything else that wanted to be photographed.
I started down the trail and heard the chitter chattering of a squirrel. How cute is he?
I kept walking down the trail and saw lots of movement on the ground. There were at least 6-7 dark eyed juncos flitting around. They do not hold still for very long, so I was lucky to get a halfway decent shot of them.
Aspens are beautiful trees and pretty prevalent around here. I was taking a pic of the leaf and an insect decided to get in the pic too.
All the aspen trees have distinctive markings. Can you see the eyeball in this pic?
Very cool!
I got down to the area where moose have been seen by my friends. A man was sitting at the picnic table, so I said hi and mentioned I was hoping to see a moose. He informed me that he had seen them about 1/2 hour ago. Sh#t! I had just missed them! We continued chatting and he said he got there at sunrise. He had seen some elk and some coyotes too.
So I guess I'm gonna get my butt up there super early on Sunday. It will be worth it if I see elk and the moose. The coyotes will be fun too but they are pretty easy to find all over Boulder.
So I continued on to the stream........
I saw this bird fly into the air catching insects. So cool! Finally he landed so I could
get a pic. I think it's an olive sided flycatcher.
I continued hiking along when I saw something moving on the trunk of a tree. I had a tough time getting a decent shot. This was the best I got. It's a brown creeper. Very cool looking bird so I'll keep my eyes open to get a better pic next time I go up there.
The last of the fall colors....
I was almost back to the parking lot when I spotted the hairy woodpecker. He gave me some good shots!
I had not seen any chipmunks along the whole trail but finally got saw one.
Very cute!
So I plan to head back Sunday morning and hopefully see some moose! Stay tuned!
