I usually do not have to work or have other commitments on Mondays. So it's a great
day to go out photographing. Everyone else is going to work and I'm going out to have fun.
It was gonna be another hot day, so I got to my favorite spot in Lakewood by 6am.
I've been anxiously awaiting the arrival of baby avocets but still no signs of them. While I was looking for the avocets I almost missed the baby spotted sandpipers. OMG! They are so cute. I saw three of them, I think. They never stopped moving, so grabbing a pic was quite the challenge.
Here's what an adult spotted sandpiper looks like.....
I finally pulled myself away from those cuties and continued on. I quickly spotted an adult and immature black crown night heron. They were sitting fairly close together but not close enough to get in the same photo. Fun to see what the immature will look like someday.....
I had only walked about 20 feet when I spotted a young belted kingfisher. I saw and heard the adults flying around. So I was hoping to get a pic of the parents giving this youngster some breakfast. Nope! No luck with that but was still fun to see...
In the same area, a great blue heron was fishing.....
And the turtles were sunning themselves....
And a killdeer was hanging around too.....
I walked over to the back pond. There were mallards and canade geese. Here are some mallards having breakfast.....
Here are some of the young wood ducks. So darn cute!
I walked by a tree full of berries. The robins were chowing down. Here's a young robin still with his spots.
I was almost all the way around the pond when I spotted the cooper's hawk. I'm guessing there is a nest around but could not see it with all the leaves.
The cormorants are all around and it looks like the youngsters have all fledged. These are the most interesting birds to me. They are diving birds yet their feathers are not waterproof. So every once in awhile, they need to spread their wings and dry them off......
What a fun morning! I headed home before it too much hotter! Enjoy!
