My Favorite spot!

I was a hard working gal all week so today was a perfect day to go out photographing.I was up early and down to my favorite spot in Lakewood just as the light was getting good.
Still no avocets or avocet babies. They were around this spring but then they disappeared. I just hope they found another place to have their babies.....

So I started my loop and quickly spotted the black crown night heron up in the tree.....

I walked just a bit further and spotted another one hanging out....

I pulled myself away to go see the snowy egrets. They were all over as I walked around the lake. At one point I saw 12 of them! They gave me some great shots today!

The sunflowers were everywhere and just calling out to me to take their picture!

The cormorants were all hanging out in their tree when I got there. By the time I had hiked around the lake, they were all in the water doing some fishing.....

There were plenty of female mallards around and mixed in with them was a female wood duck! I saw a couple more female woodies around. So I'm not sure if this is the mom I saw earlier this spring or it's one of the young all grown up.....

And of course there were great blue herons around too....

As I enjoyed myself doing some photographing, I could sense that summer was coming to an end and fall was right around the corner. Even the leaves are starting to turn......

It was time to go, so I decided to stop at Prospect park in Wheatridge on my way home. Maybe the cedar wax wings would be around......

I was barely into the parking lot and spotted some more black crown night herons......

I was hoping to see the cedar wax wings feeding their young but no such luck.....

But I did see the cat bird catching some breakfast for her young!

And the dragonflies were kind enough to pose for me....

I decided to hike over to see the great horned owl family. As you may remember they had 3 owlets this year. I knew it was long shot to see them as they are flying very well, so are quite mobile. But my owl senses were on high alert and I quickly spotted one of the youngsters.

The youngster took off and I followed him/her. I also saw one of the other youngsters but wasn't able to grab a pic.
What a fun morning! I headed home and decided to stop by the open space offices on Cherryvale. Maybe the bobolinks were out and about.
No bobolinks but I got to see momma eastern kingbird feeding her youngster a grasshopper!

What a fantastic morning! Hope you enjoy!
