Okay! I am not a fan of the wind! Never have been, never will be. Last night was brutal as the wind woke me up many times. I was hoping it would die down a bit so I could go out photographing today and it did a little bit. I did want to go to Barr Lake but I knew the winds would be terrible out there. So I settled for going to my favorite spot and Prospect park. It's not far from home, so if the wind picked up, I could pop home easily.
So I get to Belmar lake( my favorite spot) and check out the heron nest. As you may recall, I had only observed one heron and he/she seemed lonely. But today there were two!!!!
Yeah! And they busy working on their nest!
Can't wait to see some GBH babies!
I continued on and actually got a pic of this black capped chickadee. I see them all the time but they rarely hold still for a photo.....
I heard some killdeer when Hazel and I were hiking yesterday but didn't see them. So I was excited to see a couple of pairs today....
The buffleheads were putting on quite the show. I managed to get a few decent pics.....
I love how they land on the water. It's this long skid like they are sliding into home plate....
The flickers are everywhere....
So after having fun at my favorite spot, I headed up to Prospect park. I decided to go say hi to the great horned owls as I had not seen this pair in awhile. On the way I spotted a pair of magpies building their nest......
Then I spotted a pair of widgeons.....
I finally made it over to the nest. Mom had her back to me and I couldn't see any owlets yet. I am pretty sure they have hatched but it was so windy that mom probably had to sit on them so they wouldn't blow away....
I thought I'd take a quick look for daddy GHO and there he was. I actually just saw the back of him, so I walked a wide circle to get this pic. I said hi and asked for a pic. This is what he gave me! He had found a nice spot that protected him from the wind. Smart guy!
After admiring him, I planned to walk west and check out the ponds but it was just too windy. So I packed it up and headed home. So glad I fought the wind as it was a fun morning!
Thanks for reading......
