Happy Mother's Day

Normally I would go out photographing on Sunday mornings and then get Hazel out for some swimming and tennis ball chasing! But my friends were having an open house for their new location of their metaphysical center this afternoon. So Hazel and I headed out to the BVR loop for a good hike. I did bring my camera but there wasn't much to see. A few meadowlarks and prairie dogs were about it.
On the way home, I stopped by to see the owlets. We had a big rainstorm yesterday with some hail too. So I wanted to check on them.

All was well as they snuggled up together. If that branch wasn't there, this would be a fantastic pic!

Momma Cher was close by watching over the kids.....

The flicker nest was close by, so I took a peek. Seems mom had some time off as dad was holding down the fort....

Hazel and I headed home for breakfast and then I headed down to Lakewood for the open house. The center is located close to my favorite place, so I bought my camera with me. Storms were predicted for the afternoon but it was worth a shot.

After having fun at the open house, I drove over to my favorite spot. First I went to check on the cooper's hawks but no one was around. So I started over to see the avocets. Just then the wind kicked up and it started raining..damn! So I ran back to the car and was planning to head home.
But as I drove out, I spotted one of the cooper's hawks with a late lunch. She must have just caught it! Rain or no rain, I had to get some pics. Luckily the rain stopped and I got these pics!

Sweet! The rain stopped! So after enjoying the cooper's hawk, I headed out to find the avocets. I never get tired of these guys!

The yellow rumped warblers were all over the place but quite the challenge to get a pic of. They are fast!

Rain was still threatening but I was having fun, so I continued on and spotted a pair of cinnamon teals! I never see these ducks so close!

I finally pulled myself away and found the snowy egret......

Now it was starting to thunder, so it was time to get back to the car. I looked for the cooper's hawks but they were not around but this lilac bush was....

Well, that was a great day! I do enjoy photographing in the morning light but with the cloud cover, the afternoon light was good too!

Thanks for reading!
