Merry Christmas

Going for a hike on holidays is the best! Especially if you go early. The trails are nice and quiet which is so nice! So Hazel and I were at the trailhead by 8am. We planned to do the boulder valley ranch loop. In the past, I've always parked at the west parking lot( longhorn road). But since I now live in Longmont, it's easier to park at the east parking lot( 51st road).

As you can see Hazel is ready to go!

We didn't have to hike too far before I spotted this red tailed hawk......

We continued on and I could see it was gonna be a quiet day for wildlife. So I looked for other things to photograph. I love these old windmills. I believe they are used to pump water but I think this one is retired.....

And because I love playing with the prism app, I wanted to see how the windmill would look using the app. Pretty cool I think!

The BVR loop goes around a working farm. Here's this old building regular and using the prism app.

We were about three quarters around the hiking loop and I could see the snow was coming in fast!

We got down to the pond which was mostly frozen over but there was open spots for Hazel to get a drink. While she was drinking, I looked around and spotted a hawk perched on the fence post. I grabbed a quick pic from pretty far away and then attempted to get closer. The hawk took off but did a nice flight loop so I could grab some pics! I wasn't sure who it was but finally realized it was a ferruginous hawk. The second one I've seen this year!

Well that made my day seeing that beautiful hawk! So I was a happy gal!

We continued on past this old water pump. I've walked by this old pump for at least 15-16 years. Finally today I stopped and took some pics and played with the prism app.....

Whew! We just got back to the trailhead just as it started to snow and the wind picked up!
So happy we got our hike in before the weather crapped out!

Happy Holidays to you all! Thanks for reading!
