Friday Night with the Owls

I'd been checking on the owlets during the day, but since it's their night time, not much was going on. So I decided to go over last evening to see them and hopefully see some activity!
I was not disappointed ........

I met my friend Georgia and her dog Amber around 7pm and we patiently waited for the "show" to begin. Venus and Serena were sitting in their usual spot. This is Venus catching the last rays of sunshine.

There was no sign of Sonny or Cher but we knew they had to be close by. As we were chatting a crow flew up in some trees nearby and started squawking. It's well known that crows and owls do not like each other. So we walked over to check it out. We looked up near the crow but there was nothing there. But as my eye looked down there was Cher staring at us!

She is one powerful Being! And she gave me some great pics!

After posing for me, she flew up to the kids and pulled out some food from her pantry for dinner. Yum!

Then she flew over to the trees near the lilacs. We thought she was going to eat some of the food herself. But then we realized there was a third owlet over there! What???? How could this be? This one was much larger than Venus and Serena so obviously she came out of the nest a few weeks ago and we missed it!
At the old nest, you could see how many owlets they have each year. But the new nest is much more enclosed so there is no way of knowing for sure.

Well that was a big surprise! They have only had triplets one season in the past eight years or so. So it's gonna be a fun summer watching these three!

After feeding the kids, Cher flew off a short ways and we could hear Sonny hooting nearby.
It was just getting dark and a red tailed hawk flew into the tree near the owlets. Within a few seconds Cher came flying in and chased the hawk away! Very cool! It was like watching "Wild Kingdom" in person!

What a fun evening that was! Stay tuned for more adventures with my owl friends!

Oh and we named the bigger owlet Billy Jean......

Thanks for reading!
