Yes! It is officially owl season. My owl friends- Sonny and Cher moved to a new nest this year. They used the last one for about 7 years, so it was time to move. They picked a nice quiet location away from all the crazy photographers. So just a few of of us know where they are and we're keeping it top secret!
Finally one of the owlets left the nest last evening, so I popped over this morning to say hi.
Here is Sonny sitting in his favorite spot across from the nest.
And there is the new addition to the family! We like to name the owlets each year, so her name is Venus! So beautiful!
She was pretty high up in the tree but she gave me some decent pics to share with you all....
After enjoying seeing my new owl friend, Hazel dog and I headed over to Coot lake for a hike. Since I had my camera, I brought it along for our hike.
We headed for the dams but then detoured down into the trees. All of a sudden something flew by...it was a GHO! Sweet! I watched him land not far away and attempted to get close enough for a pic. But I never got close as he kept getting chased by red winged blackbirds and he finally disappeared ......
Western meadowlark have the most beautiful song and this guy is pretty handsome too!
The day started out so beautiful but the forecast called for snow and they were right! It is snowing right now( 6:30pm)
After Hazel and I had a fun hike, we headed home for coffee and breakfast. I remembered hearing about a GHO nest on Nelson road, so today I stopped to check it out. Didn't take long to spot her high up in the tree.
As I was walking back to the car, I heard a sound above me. I looked up to see an osprey! They have a nest close by so it was not surprising to see him. I grabbed this shot and then backed up until I had a better view to photograph him. As you can see he was enjoying some fish for breakfast.
Well, that was a fun morning! And a great way to celebrate my birthday! It continued with lunch with good friends, so it was a fun day for sure!
Thanks for reading!
