weekend with the owls

I've decided to name my owl friends. Sure, they may have names already but they're not telling me what they are. I like the names Sonny and Cher. Here's why....they have rockstar status for sure! People come by to say hi and enjoy their beauty. Also the female owl is taller than the male, just like Sonny and Cher.

I stopped over Saturday evening.......Cher was on the nest and Sonny was in his favorite tree. He finally flew off at dusk. I was hoping he was gonna catch some dinner and bring it to Cher. So I waited and waited and waited. Finally Cher got hungry and left the nest to get her own dinner. I got a somewhat decent shot to share.

We were supposed to get some rain or snow Sunday afternoon, but it never appeared. So I headed over to visit the owls around 5:30pm.
Cher was in the nest and Sonny was up in a tall tree. He was in a perfect tree to give me some in flight photos. So I got the camera set up and waited......after his usual routine of stretching and hooting, he took flight. Argh! I fired the camera but could see the shots were a touch blurry. Damn, they go from 0-60 in about a nano second! But luckily Sonny just flew to a nearby tree and let me get set up again. He probably sat there about 10 minutes and then gave me another opportunity to get a in flight photo. Again, they were a bit blurry but I was having a blast!
Finally he headed off and I went back to the nest. Aaah, Cher must have left while I photographing Sonny. So I patiently waited for her to return. Hopefully I could get some pics of her in flight as she returned to the nest. I caught movement out of the corner of my eye and started shooting....got a couple of pretty decent pics!
