Thursday is always a busy day. I spend most of it volunteering at Longmont Humane. I got home around 4:30pm so decided not to go visit the owls today. I took a shower, gave Molly and the kitties dinner and was getting ready to sit down for minute with a cold beer. My intuition kept pulling me to go visit the owls. I hope I'm doing a better job of listening to my intuition so grabbed my camera and headed out the door. I guess the cold beer would have to wait. I had no idea why I was called to the owls but trusted there was a good reason.
so I pulled up in the car, grabbed my camera and started walking down the path. I was fiddling with my camera settings when I heard my name called. I looked up and there was my friend Mary. Hmmm was this one of the reasons I was called to the owls? Mary was headed to the grocery store but said she'd be right back and we could watch the owls.
I was excited for her to see the "Owl Show" so I quickly headed over to the owls and got my camera equipment set up. Cher was sleeping in the nest and Sonny was in a nearby tree as usual. Sonny had just headed off to get dinner when Mary got back. So we had some time to visit and I explained how Sonny had headed off to get dinner and maybe we'd get to see him deliver it to Cher.
Well, Cher decided she needed to stretch and decided to fly out and get her own dinner. So we were treated to her taking flight...cool! She left for a few minutes but came back and landed in a nearby tree.
Mary was able to spot her, so I focused the camera on the nest. We both expected her to fly back into the nest. It was so fun to have Mary's help. She kept tabs on Cher and gave me updates such as "she's bobbing her head, I think she's gonna fly. " I waited patiently with the camera pointed the nest. "Here she comes" said Mary. I started taking pics, hoping to get a good one of her in flight. Well, instead of heading into the nest, she did a fly by. That was cool! She landed in a nearby tree and again Mary was the spotter, letting me know when she was gonna fly. Cher did another fly by before finally flying back into the nest.
How cool was that! I had not seen the owls do that type of behavior before........
Mary and I headed back to our cars. We were buzzing with the excitement that the owls always share!
now I fully understood why I was called to the owls. I got to share the experience with my friend and see a new behavior from my owl friends!
