Friday morning fun

Well, finally the sun made an appearance! So Molly and I celebrated by heading out to see our owl friends. first we stopped over to see our new owl friends. I was hoping to see the 2 owlets again but no luck. All the rain has helped the trees really flush out their foliage. So it makes it tougher to spot them. I did spot the shy parents sitting in a nearby row of trees. One flew off right away but the other honored me with some fun pics.

We said thanks and headed over to the Twin Lakes owls. Again, I could not spot Horton or Penelope but did see one of the parents. As Molly and I were looking for the young owls we were treated to some other beautiful wildlife. I spotted a female mallard sleeping on a log. She opened one eye as I took some pics. I said thanks and moved on so she could sleep.
As Molly and I were walking down the trail near the owl's old nest, I caught some movement out of the corner of my eye. Holy s#%*!! The colors were amazing! I was able to stay calm and quickly focused on this beautiful bird. He was joined by a friend, so the two of them put on quite the show for me. I thought they were western tanagers and confirmed that when I got home. Wow! I did not expect to see them, so it totally made my day!
Enjoy!
