amazing photo day part 3

I was so happy I took the time to check out Main reservoir. Watching that hawk eat lunch was so cool! I will definitely go back again!
It's now around 1 pm and I'm a bit tired. I had been out shooting since about 8 am. I planned to head home but just had to stop at Prospect park. I drive right by it on the way home, so it was a no brainer to check it out. This is where I saw the mandarin duck last summer. I've heard he's back but have not seen him yet this year. Here's a pic from last summer.

He sure is a handsome guy and yes they are related to the wood ducks.

Being mid day, it was a bit quiet but I decided to walk out to see if Mr. wood duck was around. He was not there, just a few pairs of mallards hanging out......
Usually I would do the big loop but being a bit tired and hungry, I decided to just take the path back that runs alongside the creek. I glanced up and saw something in the trees. What? It was another sharp shinned hawk. Again she was quite agreeable to me photographing her. She was busy building her nest. She'd land in a tree, grab a small twig and fly back to her nest area. I definitely made a mental note of where her nest is. Maybe baby hawk pictures in the near future.....

My hunger was forgotten as I enjoyed her beauty. I was hoping to get a flight shot but it wasn't meant to be, so I moved on along the trail. I was almost back to the car and I heard a beautiful song coming from a tree. It took a minute but hear's who was singing....
a yellow rumped warbler

After enjoying this beautiful little guy, I head for the car. A shadow goes by me, I look up and it's a red tail hawk. I watch as he ands in a nearby tree. Guess I wasn't going home yet.....Again he posed nicely for me. As I was shooting, I heard another camera shutter firing. I looked back and another photographer was enjoying his beauty too. We smiled in acknowledgment that we had gotten some good pics!

What a very fun day! Of course, now I had about 600 photos to go through. Guess I knew what I was doing the rest of the day :)

Enjoy and thanks again for reading!
