Daylight Savings Day Fun

Yahoo! I had not been out photographing for a couple of weeks, so I was ready to go!
I was up at 6am today but since we changed the clocks, it was really 5am..ouch! Usually the Sunday paper is at my door when I head out to photograph but today I even beat him......

No worries, I knew as soon as the coffee kicked in, I'd be awake and ready to go! First I stopped over to see my owl friends. It was still dark so I knew it would not be possible to get any pics but I just wanted to say hi. A quick peek with the flashlight revealed Cher on the nest. I'm guessing her eggs have hatched, so the owlets will be visible very soon.

Next stop was Prospect park in Wheatridge. Usually I stop there after my favorite place but today I decided to give it my full attention. There are many places to explore in Prospect, so I was excited to check it out.

The main pond was pretty quiet, so I headed west to Tabor lake. That was also quiet, so I continued on past the bridge along the creek.

A handsome gadwall was posed with the light hitting him perfectly......

And here is a female green winged teal. Check out that green patch!

And here's the male.....

Other than that, it was pretty quiet so I continued on my loop. The robins were everywhere singing up a storm. This one shows that it was a bit windy at times....

Then a pair of flickers flew by and landed in a tree....

They were in courting mode for sure. They kept bobbing their heads toward each other. Very cute!

And then there were a few downy woodpeckers looking for breakfast.

Check out those claws......

I continued on to see if I could find the pair of great horned owls that lived here in in years past. I'm not sure if they are still around but it was worth a look. I didn't find them but did find this cute squirrel.

I also spotted some beaver evidence. Although I have never seen them, I knew they lived here. But after the terrible floods we had in 2013, I was not sure if they'd return. So glad they did!

Finally I headed back towards the parking lot. There were some gadwalls, teals and this very cute widgeon. And I didn't realize it at the time but got a pretty decent reflection shot, my favorite!

So I headed home to get Hazel dog out for some fun. We went to coot lake so she could enjoy a swim! Her favorite thing to do! Then on the way home we stopped to check on my other owl friends. They were not around but the kestrel pair was.....

It was a fun morning for sure but I am so ready for spring and the birds that will be
returning very soon! Thanks for reading!
