I was eager and excited to get started this morning! My first stop was gonna be to see my owl friends. I haven't been over there as much as I usually am this time of year. Weather has been a factor but also because of all the publicity they have received lately. There's a parcel of land right near their nest that the city of Boulder wants to build affordable housing.
Yes, Boulder needs affordable housing but this is not a good location for many reasons. One of the reasons is the owls. There have been many articles in the paper about the owls which has drawn even more people over there to see them. I'm not a fan of crowds, so I've stayed away.
So I figured going over early Sunday morning might be my best chance of enjoying the owls by myself. Thankfully I was right! The sun was just coming up when I spotted this owl. At first I thought it was Sonny but I was not sure.....
Then Cher appeared with a meadow vole for the owlets. Nice butt shot of her feeding them!
I believe there are 2 owlets this year. Here's a grainy shot of one of them.
After feeding the kids, momma Cher settled in for a nap...
So I kept watching the other owl. Finally the sun shown nicely on this guy and it is definitely not Sonny. He looks like a youngster, maybe born last year, does not look like one of Sonny and Cher's off spring, and looks like he had a rough night of partying, huh?
He spent a great deal of time grooming to pull himself together.....
Cher knew he was around and was not concerned......
Here is a pic of Sonny from a few years ago. As you can see there is no resemblance at all!
I did not see Sonny at all, so stay tuned for an update soon.....
So after enjoying the owls, I headed over to Walden ponds.
The gold finches were all over the place!
And the views of the snow covered mountains were spectacular!
More gold finches....
As I was headed out, I spotted a lone pelican. They do migrate south for the winter and I have seen reports that they are back. I hope to see more soon!
Thanks for reading! Stay tuned for owl updates!
