No Moose Today
Nope! The moose were not cooperating today. Oh well, it was a beautiful day. I was out the door by 6am and yes, it was still very dark. It takes about 45 minutes to drive up the canyon to this trail. It's at around 8500 ft elevation, so it was about 20 degrees cooler than
at my house.
I had to start out with mittens and a warm jacket but it warmed up quickly. I hustled along the trail to the open meadow. I had visions of a big heard of elk grazing in the field but all I saw were a few elk way up on the mountainside. Oh well, I really wanted to see some moose, so I hiked over to the pond where they've been seen. Nothing!
I continued on to the old mining area and then completed the 3 mile loop back to the parking lot.
Here's what I did see.....
sunrise
white breasted nuthatch
view of old mining camp
black capped chickadee
a cute squirrel having breakfast
another white breasted nuthatch
I'm even more determined to see and photograph some moose..wish me luck!
