A Few Surprises

After celebrating my birthday yesterday, it was back to my morning routine. So I was up and out of the house by 6am. I headed over to see how the owlet triplets were doing. They were still all hanging out together high up in their tree. I crossed over the green pipe to get a better look at them. They were calling for food and momma Cher came flying in with a meadow vole. It was a big one! She gave it to one of the owlets and the owlet scarfed it down like a pro! Yum!

It quieted down after that, so I headed over to see if the osprey were around. I was at the lake for about 30 seconds when one of the osprey showed up. Again, the light was not good and the osprey was on the other side of the lake. But it was so fun to watch him dive in and grab a fish!

I checked on the owls and all was quiet, so I headed  down the trail towards the car. This blue jay posed nicely for me.....

I was gonna head home for coffee and breakfast but I decided to stop over at the owl nest. I knew those owlets were about ready to pop out.
I had just pulled up when I saw this huge bird flying over my car. OMG! An immature bald eagle landed in a nearby tree.

I was enjoying the eagle when I spotted another bird land in a tree. What???? It was a peregrine falcon! Yes, they do nest in the flatirons above Boulder but it is not a bird I typically see so close up! So I was very excited!

It was pretty windy, so this guy was getting blown around bit as he put on a show for me!

Also hanging around were a couple of kestrels. While the peregrine is the largest falcon, the kestrel is the smallest falcon...pretty cool!

Both mom and dad owl were perched in a nearby tree. I caught a glimpse of an owlet in the nest, so I'm thinking no one has left the nest yet.....

Well that was a fun time. All that action happened in about 90 minutes! So I headed home for some coffe and to hike with Hazel dog!

Thanks so reading!
