Saturday was another fun day of owl watching! I was out to the nest by 6:30am. The owlets were pretty active and fun to watch. At this point, I am not sure who is who. It was much easier to keep track in past years when there was only two owlets. So throwing in a third does make it more challenging. Not that it matters but we will try to keep track of who is who throughout the summer.
I love the morning light and how it was shining on this cutie!
The other two looking cute too.....
Mom was close by watching over the kids....
And Dad was snoozing after a busy night of hunting.....
The owlets were chillin, so I walked over to the east lake. I had been seeing a pair of osprey fishing the last few mornings, so I was hoping to get some pics if they were around. As I walked down the trail circling the lake, I spotted something on a low branch.....Yeah! An osprey eating breakfast!
Well, that was amazing! I always enjoy seeing those magnificent birds! I headed back to see the owls but all was quiet, so I decided to head home. As I was walking down the trail, I heard the wood ducks. They are still searching for that perfect home......
When I got home, this robin was waiting for me to take his pic.....
After a good day of work and taking Hazel swimming, I headed back over to see the owls. These two were snoozing and the other one was tucked high in a tree nearby.
So I walked over to the west lake to see who was around. A great blue heron was flying around and there were two pair of avocets. I just learned that the female avocet has a more curved bill. See if you can pick on the male and female avocets.
After enjoying the avocets, I headed back to the owl nest and waiting for the evening show. Sometimes we are lucky enough to see the owlets get fed before it gets too dark. But tonight, it was pretty dark when Cher flew up to feed one of the owlets. The other two were quite excited and wanted food too. One was able to fly to where Cher was but the other did not quite make it. So we saw and heard one of the owlets plunge down into the brush. The owlet was fine and attempted to climb up to where mom and the owlets were. By then it was very dark, so I called it a night and headed home.
It was supposed to be a rainy, windy day today( Sunday) but when I got up, it was just cloudy. So I popped over to see the owls. And there they were, all three together! Bummer that the light was crappy for good pics but it was very cool to see them all together!
They shifted around and now there was a cute owl butt facing me......
All was well, so I headed home. This is the beautiful path I walk everyday to get to the owls....
Thanks for reading!
