Another Windy Day

We have been having more than our fair share of wind for the last few days. But when I got up this morning, it was nice and calm. So I took care of the kids and headed down to my favorite spot to photograph in Lakewood. Sweet! it was still nice and calm as I got out of the car and grabbed my camera. I immediately spotted the pair of avocets. I sure hope to see baby avocets this summer. There is nothing cuter!

It is almost impossible to get photos of the swallows flying, so I was happy to see this take a break to give me some pics!

This sweet female mallard caught my eye. If you look close, you can see water droplets on her.....

Then I spotted a male ring-necked duck. Supposedly there is a ring around their neck that is really hard to see. I think they could use a better name......but they are handsome!

And the blue winged teals are still around. I hope they stick around all summer! Thankfully there was still no wind. I do love those reflection shots!

I caught a glimpse of orange and spotted this pair of cinnamon teals. I have not seen cinnamon teals stick around this pond for any length of time. Maybe they'll hang around all summer!

So I had done one lap and decided to do another lap. I have learned you may see different birds the next time around.
Well, finally the snowy egrets have started to show up! There was one today and more should be coming in soon!

The great blue heron was doing some fishing near the egret. Their nest looks good but no sign of baby GBH yet.

At least one if not two pair of wood ducks nest here each year. And today I spotted one of the males. I never get tired of seeing these beautiful ducks!

Just down from the wood duck was the pair of cinnamon teals again! Look how nicely they posed for me! This is the best pic I have gotten of them so far......

Well, the wind was starting to pick up. So I started to head for the car and go home. Out of the corner of my eye I spotted BABY MALLARDS! These are the first ones for me this season and I never get tired of them!

Dad was staying close by looking after his family....

Well, that was a very fun time! I did stop by Prospect park but did not see much. The GHO is still on the nest. Seems like she has been there forever. The eggs hatch at around 30 days and she has been on the nest much longer than that. So stay tuned......

By the time I got home, the wind was howling! Crap! Hazel needed a hike so we braved the wind and did the hiking loop by the house. Just as we got back to the apartment, a hawk flew into a nearby tree. So I put Hazel in the house, grabbed the camera and went to get some pics. This is a young red tailed hawk. He/she was getting blasted by the wind but hung on to that branch!

That was a great day! But it is nice to be inside out of that wind!

Thanks for reading.....
